EDISON, NJ – The Edison High School baseball team delivered a solid performance Saturday, shutting out cross-town rivals J.P. Stevens by a score of 10-0. The Eagles’ victory was fueled by an outstanding complete-game shutout from Junior pitcher Connor Murphy, who kept the Hawks’ bats silent throughout the contest.
Murphy was in complete command from the first pitch, allowing just two hits and no walks while striking out a nine batters. His fastball had zip, his breaking ball kept the J.P. Stevens hitters off balance, and he consistently hit his spots, never allowing the Hawks to mount any serious offensive threat. It was a masterful performance on the mound, a game that Murphy will undoubtedly remember.
Murphy has been an absolute force on the mound in his last three starts for Edison. He has strung together an incredible streak of three consecutive complete-game shutouts, including a no-hitter. Over those 17 innings, he has been virtually unhittable, allowing only five hits while racking up 26 strikeouts. This dominant stretch has lowered his season ERA to an impressive 1.29.
The Edison offense provided plenty of support for their ace, exploding for ten runs on eight hits. They were patient at the plate, drawing eight walks and putting consistent pressure on the J.P. Stevens pitching staff.
Offensively, Edison showcased a balanced attack. Roma had a standout day with a home run and three RBIs. Innocenti also had a stellar performance, driving in four runs on two hits, including a double. Murphy helped his own cause with two hits and an RBI, while Tavarez and Kentos each chipped in with a hit and an RBI.
For J.P. Stevens, it was a tough day at the plate. They managed just two singles – one apiece from Jaden Kasim and Chace Sullivan – and struggled to generate any momentum against Murphy’s stellar pitching. Starting pitcher Lansen Mui battled for 3 and 1/3 innings but ultimately took the loss. Arnav Jain pitched the remaining 2 and 2/3 innings for the Hawks.
This decisive victory marks a significant win for Edison, especially against their local rivals. Connor Murphy’s dominant complete-game shutout will be the headline, but the offensive production and patient approach at the plate were equally crucial in the 10-0 win. J.P. Stevens will look to bounce back in their next gameat Colonia on 5/8, while Edison will ride this momentum into their upcoming matchup at home against Metuchen on 5/6.
