Edison High School’s football team kicked off their season in style with a resounding 27-0 victory over East Brunswick in their home opener. The star of the show was undoubtedly Nyekir Eato, whose four-touchdown performance electrified the crowd and left the visiting team reeling.
The first half was a defensive struggle, with both teams unable to find the end zone. However, just before halftime, Eato broke the deadlock with a 19-yard touchdown run, giving the Eagles a 7-0 lead heading into the break.
The second half was all Edison. Eato took the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown, extending the lead to 14-0. He then added two more rushing touchdowns, a five-yarder and a 24-yarder, to put the game well out of reach.
Eato’s final stat line was impressive: 18 carries for 138 yards and three touchdowns, plus an 85-yard kickoff return for another score. He also contributed on defense with three interceptions, showcasing his all-around talent.
Head Coach Matt Yascko said ” I’m happy with the win, we need to fix a lot of mistakes but I’m proud of the team and the effort.”
The Eagles’ defense was equally dominant, pitching a shutout and limiting East Brunswick’s offense throughout the game. Shaun Garland, Aidan Nagy, and Robert Roma all recorded sacks, while AJ Sarni added an interception.
