This incident is not the first time Virani Jewelers in Iselin has been targeted. In June 2022, a similar armed robbery occurred at their Oak Tree Road location, where masked individuals stormed the store, forcing employees to the ground and stealing an estimated $1 million in gold jewelry. Federal prosecutors later linked this 2022 robbery to a larger D.C.-based crime ring that targeted Asian American-owned jewelry stores along the East Coast.
It is currently unclear if today’s robbery is connected to any prior incidents or if it was an isolated event. Police have not yet commented on whether any employees or customers were injured during the latest heist.
