Water Main Update 3: Pump Failure Halts Repairs, Low Or No Water Pressure Expected

EDISON, NJ – December 27, 2024 – Repairs on the water main break overnight have been brought to a standstill due to an unexpected pump failure. Crews working through the night were forced to stop work when the pump essential for the repair operation malfunctioned. A replacement pump has been ordered, but its arrival time is currently unknown.

Residents and businesses in South Edison can expect to experience low or no water pressure continuing this morning and throughout the day. The extent and duration of the low and no pressure will depend on the location and water usage. Officials are unable to provide an estimated time for full water service restoration.

Town Hall, originally scheduled to open with a two-hour delay at 10:00 AM, is unlikely to open on time. As of 6:45 AM, no repair work was underway, and the lack of a functioning pump means the delay will likely be extended.

A boil water advisory has been issued for the affected area; all residents should boil their water for at least one minute before consuming it or using it for cooking.
