Mayor Joshi Files Six Quarters Of NJELEC Reports

Raises more questions than answers as $20k reimbursement to take four cops to Chicago is not listed. Was it actually repaid?

The long-delayed campaign finance reports for Mayor Joshi, filed with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (NJELEC) after a staggering six-quarter backlog, have finally surfaced, detailing his fundraising activities. While these reports offer a glimpse into the contributions received, including dates and amounts, their belated arrival has generated significant scrutiny, raising more questions than answers. The extended delay has fueled speculation regarding the transparency and accountability of the mayor’s campaign, prompting concerns about potential discrepancies and the motivations behind the prolonged silence.

A notable absence in Mayor Joshi’s recently filed Q3 2024 campaign finance reports is the $20,000 expenditure incurred when he took township police officers to Chicago for the Democratic National Convention in August. The check provided by Mayor Joshi was dated August 27th for reimbursement however his NJELEC Q3 2024 filing shows zero expenditures. Q2 2024 and Q4 2024 also do not show the reimbursement. This omission raises serious questions about the transparency of the reimbursement and whether the funds were actually properly reimbursed.

Here’s a summary of the reports, the quarters they represent, their filing dates, and how late they were filed:

Also raising red flags are the contributions from Partners of CME Associates who have engineering contracts with Edison Township.

Several individuals listed as partners on the CME ASSOCIATES website contributed a total of $11,000.00 which appears to be a violation of local pay to play ordinance 4-8 Public Contracts To Certain Contributors which limits annual contributions to Mayoral candidates to $400 per partner and $2,500 in aggregate.

    • MCCLELLAND, MICHAEL, 82 IDA LANE, BRICK NJ 08724, $2,500.00, 10/16/2023

    • STEFANI, JOHN, 531 STAGE COACH ROAD, CLARKSBURG NJ 08510, $2,500.00, 10/16/2023

A Contribution from a CME associated company Waggoner Engineering from Jackson, MS for a total of $5,000 brought the total to $16,000 from CME Associates and related companies through it’s strategic partnership with the Trilon Group.

    • WAGGONER ENGINEERING, INC., PO BOX 12227, JACKSON MS 39236, $5,000.00, 10/16/2023

According to their website “Waggoner has a long history of helping public entities and private interests solve their water and wastewater challenges and find solutions on all frontsโ€”technical, institutional, and financial. We also work collaboratively with resource agencies to bring them together with our clients to develop long-term funding strategies for capital improvements.”

All three, CME Associates, Trilon Group and Waggoner Engineering are listed in the portfolio of private equity firm Alpine Investors on the firms website, fueling rumors that Mayor Joshi will be looking to sell the water and sewer system in a deal financed by a private equity firm like the failed Suez deal in 2019 that was to be financed by private equity firm KKR.

Contributors with Addresses Not from Edison:

The total contributions from non-Edison residents totals $138,550.00 from a total of 45 individuals.
