Edison Mourns Loss of Rabbi Dr. Israel Rivkin

Edison and the Jewish community are grieving the loss of beloved Rabbi Dr. Israel Rivkin, who passed away on Sunday, September 22nd. Rabbi Rivkin is survived by his wife Rebecca, and his children Tova Kestenbaum, Rena Kwestel, Zev Rivkin, and Shira Markowitz.

A funeral was held on Monday, September 23rd at 5:00 PM at Eretz Hachaim Cemetery, Har Tuv, near Beit Shemesh. For those unable to attend in person, a livestream of the funeral was made available.

Shiva will begin on Tuesday at Diskin 13, Jerusalem between the hours of 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM, and 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM. Daily prayer services will be held during shiva, with Shacharit at 7:15 AM, Mincha at 6:20 PM, and Maariv at 6:55 PM.

Zev and Rena Rivkin will be returning to the United States for a portion of the shiva period, and details regarding shiva in the US will be forthcoming.

Congregation Ohr Torah in Edison, New Jersey, where Rabbi Rivkin served as a spiritual leader, shared the news of his passing and offered condolences to the family, saying, “May God comfort you among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.”

Rabbi Dr. Israel Rivkin was known for his warmth, wisdom, and dedication to his community. He touched countless lives through his teachings and his compassionate spirit. His loss will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
