The Edison Police Department is currently accepting applications for volunteer Auxiliary Police Officers. This is a great opportunity for residents to give back to their community and gain valuable experience in law enforcement.
What is an Auxiliary Police Officer?
Auxiliary Police Officers are unpaid volunteers who assist sworn police officers with a variety of tasks, such as:
- Traffic and crowd control
- Security at public events
- Road closures
- Extra patrols in parks and public properties
- Assisting in emergency and disaster situations
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
- Possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license
- Be in good physical condition
- Pass a criminal background check and interview
- Live in Edison or a neighboring town without its own auxiliary police force
What is the Commitment?
Selected applicants will be required to attend the Middlesex County Auxiliary Police Academy from March to June 2025. Training sessions will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings, with some Saturday sessions. Attendance is mandatory to graduate.
