Edison, NJ – The Edison High School girls’ softball team kicked off their season with a 11-1 victory on the road against Carteret. The Eagles showed their offensive prowess, racking up 12 hits and capitalizing on Carteret’s pitching struggles to secure a decisive win.

Edison’s bats were hot from the start, with several players delivering standout performances. Leading the charge was Freshman Callie DiBisceglie, who went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, including a triple. Senior Kaylin Kline also had a stellar day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, highlighted by a double and a triple. Freshman Kailyn Harkins contributed two hits and an RBI, while Nalini Parekh, Olivia Shourt, and Lindsay Yascko each added a hit and an RBI.

The Edison offense was relentless, putting constant pressure on Carteret’s pitcher, Jayanilis Pagan. Pagan struggled to contain the Eagles’ hitters, allowing 12 hits and 11 runs, with 9 of them being earned. The Edison batters also showed great discipline at the plate, drawing two walks and a hit by pitch.

Freshman Jenna Fugate earned the win on the mound for Edison, pitching a complete five innings. She limited Carteret to just one run on one hit, striking out eleven and walking one. Fugate’s steady pitching performance kept Carteret’s offense in check, allowing the Eagles to build a comfortable lead.

Carteret’s lone run came from a Trinity Bernadino triple, but that was all they could muster against Fugate’s strong pitching. Carteret’s offense struggled, managing only one hit in the entire game.

Edison’s overall batting stats were impressive, with a team batting average of .414 and a slugging percentage of .655. The team also showed their ability to capitalize on opportunities, recording a sacrifice fly.

    Key Performances:

    • Callie DiBisceglie: 3-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs, 1 triple.
    • Kaylin Kline: 2-for-3, 2 runs, 1 RBI, 1 double, 1 triple.
    • Jenna Fugate: 5 IP, 1 hit, 1 run (earned), 1 strikeout, 1 walk.
    • Kailyn Harkins: 2-for-3, 1 RBI.

With the victory, the Edison Eagles have set a strong tone for the season. They’ll look to carry this momentum into their next game. The Eagles will play their home opener this Friday at 4 PM against Piscataway. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the team as they look to continue their winning streak.
