Edison Township To Approve New Liquor License for Biryani of America

Edison, NJ – The Edison Township Council will vote to authorize the issuance of a new Plenary Retail Consumption Liquor License to Biryani of America, LLC. The license, which will be effective as of September 25, 2024, will allow for a restaurant to be located at 460 Plainfield Avenue to serve alcoholic beverages.

The decision to award the license to Biryani of America was made following a competitive bidding process that began in January 2023. The Township Council authorized the sale of one new liquor license and received multiple bids. On March 23, 2023, the Council adopted a resolution awarding the license to Biryani of America as the winning bidder at a price of $867,906.

Before the license could be issued, the applicant was required to complete a thorough background check, comply with all notice publication requirements, and disclose the source of all funds used in the purchase of the license and any additional financing obtained in connection with the licensed business. The Township has confirmed that Biryani of America has met all of these requirements and is qualified to be licensed.

It is supprising that Biryani of America has secured a liquor license for the unfinished property at 460 Plainfield Ave, a site that has remained in a state of neglect and incompletion for the past few years. The news has sparked curiosity and raised questions about the future of this long-dormant construction project. Will this be the catalyst that finally brings life to this abandoned site? Or will it remain an unfinished eyesore, now with the added complexity of a liquor license attached to its name?
