Edison, NJ – In a nail-biter that went down to the wire, the Highland Park Owls girls basketball team defeated the Edison Eagles 44-42 on Monday. The Owls were led by senior Vanessa Kohler, who put up 23 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.

Kohler’s offense was complemented by Thara Belton’s 9 points and 4 rebounds, providing crucial support and a balanced attack for Highland Park. The Owls demonstrated strong teamwork and resilience throughout the game, especially in the final minutes when the pressure was on.

Edison fought until the end, with Carmela Arana and Angelisa Kearns leading the charge. Both players reached double digits, scoring 11 points each. Despite their efforts and a strong showing on the court, the Eagles couldn’t overcome the Owls’ down the stretch.

The game was a back-and-forth affair with both teams trading baskets and the lead changing hands multiple times. The intensity was palpable as the clock wound down, and the final seconds were filled with suspense. Ultimately, Highland Park held on to secure the hard-fought victory.

Edison will look to bounce back on Wednesday at home against Iselin Kennedy at 5:30pm. Highland Park will be on the road at Carteret on Wednesday at 5:30pm.
