The Metuchen Bulldogs football team kicked off their season with a 14-6 the Middlesex. The Bulldogs’ defense was the star of the show, stifling the Blue Jays’ offense for much of the game.
The first half was a defensive struggle, with neither team able to find the end zone. The Bulldogs finally broke the deadlock in the third quarter when Evan Toth powered his way into the end zone from three yards out. Austin Loreti’s successful extra point gave the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead.
The Blue Jays responded with a touchdown of their own in the fourth quarter, but the Bulldogs’ defense held firm, preventing the extra point attempt. Metuchen sealed the victory when Ryan Toth scored on another three-yard run, and Loreti once again added the extra point.
The Bulldogs’ ground game was the key to their success, with both Toth brothers finding the end zone. The offensive line deserves credit for opening up holes for the running backs, and the defense was outstanding, limiting the Blue Jays’ scoring opportunities.
This win is a great start to the season for the Bulldogs, and it sets the tone for what promises to be an exciting year. The team will look to build on this momentum as they take on their next opponent
