Robert “Bob” Engel, Lifelong Edison Resident and Korean War Veteran

Edison, NJ – Robert “Bob” Engel, a beloved resident of Edison, New Jersey, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at the age of 92. Bob was surrounded by loved ones at Roosevelt Care Center in Edison.

Born to the late Julius and Dora Engel, Bob was a lifelong resident of Edison, a community he deeply cherished. His dedication to his country was evident in his service as a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran during the Korean War. Bob’s commitment to veterans continued throughout his life as a member of the Edison VFW Memorial Post #3117, the American Legion Chaumont Post #243 in South Plainfield, and the Disabled American Veterans of NJ Post #52.

Bob had a multifaceted career, first serving in law enforcement and later transitioning to become a successful self-employed building contractor. His work ethic and skills were admired throughout the community.

Bob was predeceased by his siblings Edith Pinter, Gladys Colton, Ruth Demarest, Elmer Ellmyer, and George Ellmyer. He is survived by his loving wife Sylvia; sons Robert Julius Engel and his wife Gail, Alan J. Engel and his wife Theresa; daughter Robyn Rasmussen and her husband Patrick; sister Ethel Santangelo; and four beloved grandchildren, Patrick Engel, Rhiannon Rasmussen, Robert J. Engel, and Jacob Engel.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on Sunday from 2-6 PM at the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home 568 Middlesex Ave. (RT 27) Metuchen. A private interment will take place at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, honoring Bob’s military service.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Robert’s memory to Grace Reformed Church, PO Box 1385, Edison, NJ 08818.
