South Plainfield, NJ – South Plainfield is hosting its 65th Annual Labor Day Parade today, a cherished tradition marking the unofficial end of summer. Hosted by the South Plainfield Public Celebrations Committee (SPPCC), this year’s festivities promise a day filled with community spirit and a spectacular fireworks display.

“There’s no better way to unofficially end summer in South Plainfield than at our Labor Day celebration,” said SPPCC co-Chair Kelly Daley. “Here, Labor Day is about more than just a parade – it’s a testament to the unity and spirit that defines our town.”

The day’s events will kick off with the South Plainfield Education Foundation’s 5K Race and Family Fun Fitness Walk, followed by the parade commencing at 10 a.m. from the PAL. The parade, led by the South Plainfield High School Marching Band and Honorary Grand Marshals Bob and Marge Ackerman, will feature a delightful array of bands, stilt walkers, jugglers, antique cars, and floats embodying the 2024 theme “Once Upon A Parade.”

The parade route will wind its way down Maple Avenue to Plainfield Avenue, passing the municipal building, and concluding at South Plainfield Middle School.

Following the parade, Veterans Park will come alive with vendors, food, entertainment, and activities for all ages from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Roaming entertainers and music from DJ Troy will keep the festive atmosphere going.

As the sun sets, the celebration will shift to Spring Lake Park. DJ Troy will continue the musical entertainment at the gazebo from 7 p.m., leading up to the highly anticipated fireworks show presented by Garden State Fireworks, scheduled to begin around 8:30 p.m.

“We invite everyone to join us on Labor Day,” Daley extended a warm welcome. “This year, the streets will be filled with the magic of ‘Once Upon A Parade’ as our community comes together to celebrate a day of timeless tradition, enchantment, and memories.”

South Plainfield’s Labor Day celebration promises a day of fun, community bonding, and a spectacular finale under the night sky, a fitting tribute to the spirit of labor and the joys of summer.
