Edison, NJ – In a game that came down to the wire, the JP Stevens girls basketball team let a fourth-quarter lead slip away, falling to Spotswood 44-43 and dropping to 0-2 on the season.

Despite holding a 6-point advantage heading into the final period, the Hawks couldn’t withstand a furious rally by the Chargers, who outscored them 18-11 to secure the victory.

Aliyah Manley led all scorerers with 21 points for JP Stevens. However, the Hawks struggled to contain Spotswood’s dynamic duo of Lizzie Calandruccio and Gabby Hill. Calandruccio poured in a game-high 19 points, while Hill provided 15 points of her own.

The Chargers’ comeback was fueled by aggressive defense and clutch shooting down the stretch. JP Stevens, on the other hand, seemed to struggle with maintaining possession and executing their offense in the face of Spotswood’s intensified pressure.

This loss marks a tough start for the Hawks, who will need to regroup and find ways to close out games if they hope to turn their season around. Their next game will be at home on January 2nd against Middlesex at 5:30pm.
