Edison Police Remember Patrolman Frank Papaianni

Today, we remember the ultimate sacrifice made by Edison Patrolman Frank Papaianni, who was tragically killed in the line of duty on September 16, 1971.

Patrolman Papaianni and his partner responded to a silent holdup alarm at a bank located in Menlo Park Mall. Upon their arrival, the suspect, an ex-convict, ambushed the officers, opening fire before they could even exit their patrol car. Patrolman Papaianni was fatally struck in the chest, and his partner was critically wounded. The suspect was subsequently shot and killed.

Patrolman Papaianni had dedicated three years of his life to serving the Edison community as a member of the police department. His untimely death left behind a grieving expectant wife and two young children.
