EDISON, NJ – A significant water main break on Wednesday morning has left residents along a stretch of Woodbridge Avenue and Mill Road without or with severely limited water service. The incident occurred when a private contractor struck a 20-inch water main, causing widespread disruption.
According to Edison township officials, the contractor hit the main at approximately 10:45 AM, leading to immediate loss of water pressure in the area. The location of the break, between Mill Road and Woodbridge Avenue, has resulted in residents along these roads experiencing the brunt of the outage.
The sudden water main break also forced Middlesex College to abruptly close its Edison campus, suspending all classes. College officials promptly directed students to monitor their email for crucial updates regarding the campus’s reopening and any necessary rescheduling of academic activities, emphasizing the need for clear communication during the unexpected disruption.
Residents are advised to monitor official township channels for updates on the restoration progress. The incident highlights the potential impact of construction activities on critical infrastructure and the importance of careful planning and execution to prevent such disruptions.
