The Edison Police Department is currently accepting applications for volunteer Auxiliary Police Officers. This is a great opportunity for residents to give back to their community and gain valuable experience in law enforcement.

What is an Auxiliary Police Officer?

Auxiliary Police Officers are unpaid volunteers who assist sworn police officers with a variety of tasks, such as:

    • Traffic and crowd control
    • Security at public events
    • Road closures
    • Extra patrols in parks and public properties
    • Assisting in emergency and disaster situations

    Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, applicants must meet the following requirements:

    • Be a U.S. citizen
    • Be at least 18 years old
    • Have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
    • Possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license
    • Be in good physical condition
    • Pass a criminal background check and interview
    • Live in Edison or a neighboring town without its own auxiliary police force

    What is the Commitment?

Selected applicants will be required to attend the Middlesex County Auxiliary Police Academy from March to June 2025. Training sessions will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings, with some Saturday sessions. Attendance is mandatory to graduate.

    How to Apply:

Interested individuals can download an application from the Edison Township website or the Edison Police Auxiliary website. Completed applications must be mailed or dropped off to:

Edison Police Department Administration Bureau 100 Municipal Blvd. Edison, NJ 08817 Attention: Deputy Chief Robert Dudash Jr.

The deadline to apply is Monday, November 4th, 2024 at 4:00 PM.
