Edison, NJ – For the umpteenth time, the infamous railroad bridge on Suttons Lane has claimed another victim. Last night at approximately 7:00 PM, a box truck became wedged under the notoriously low-hanging structure, prompting a swift response from emergency services and a Nixle alert from Edison Township.
The alert, issued shortly after the incident, declared Suttons Lane closed in both directions between Fairview Avenue and Central Avenue due to a motor vehicle accident. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes as authorities worked to clear the scene.
This latest incident is yet another in a long and frustrating string of similar accidents at the same location. Despite numerous warning signs and flashing lights indicating the bridge’s low clearance, drivers of oversized vehicles continue to fall victim to its deceptively low height.
Local residents have long expressed their concerns about the bridge, calling for more effective preventative measures. Some suggest increased signage, while others propose more drastic solutions like lowering the road or raising the bridge.
“It’s unbelievable that this keeps happening,” commented a frustrated resident who lives near the bridge. “You’d think after all these years, something more would be done to prevent this. It’s dangerous, it causes traffic chaos, and it’s frankly embarrassing.”
As of this morning, the truck has been removed and Suttons Lane has reopened. However, the question remains: what will it take to finally put an end to this recurring nightmare on Suttons Lane?
