Black Bear Pays Unexpected Visit to Edison Tower Neighborhood

Edison, NJ – Residents in the Edison Tower neighborhood near of Wood Avenue and Oak Tree Road were surprised by an unusual visitor. A black bear was spotted strolling up a driveway before disappearing back into the woods.

A local homeowner, captured the encounter on their home security camera. The footage shows the bear calmly walking up the driveway, pausing briefly to investigate, and then retreating into the nearby wooded area.

While black bear sightings are not unheard of in New Jersey, they are relatively rare in suburban areas like Edison. The incident serves as a reminder that wildlife can sometimes venture into unexpected places, particularly as their natural habitats shrink.

Local authorities have been notified of the sighting and are advising residents to take precautions to avoid attracting bears. This includes securing garbage cans, removing bird feeders, and keeping pet food indoors.

Black bears are generally shy and avoid contact with humans. However, it is important to exercise caution and observe them from a safe distance. If you encounter a bear, remain calm and back away slowly. Do not approach the bear or attempt to feed it.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) encourages residents to report any bear sightings through their online reporting system. This information helps the DEP track bear activity and manage the state’s bear population.

As the Edison Tower neighborhood grapples with this unexpected encounter, residents are reminded to appreciate the area’s natural surroundings while remaining vigilant and respectful of the wildlife that shares their space.
