Edison, NJ – At the upcoming Monday, August 26th Council meeting, Councilman Rich Brescher intends to introduce a resolution to name the Edison Splash Park after former Councilwoman Joyce Ship-Freeman, the only black council person to serve in Edison’s history. The resolution will recognize Ship-Freeman’s tireless efforts and dedication in championing the Splash Park project for four years during her tenure, finally seeing it come to fruition.
The Splash Park, a recent addition to the community, offers residents a place to cool off and have fun during the hot summer months. Ship-Freeman’s unwavering advocacy for the project was instrumental in its realization. She consistently pushed for its inclusion in the town’s plans, securing funding and overcoming various obstacles.
Councilman Brescher’s resolution aims to honor Ship-Freeman’s significant contribution to the community and ensure her legacy lives on. By naming the Splash Park after her, future generations will be reminded of her dedication and the impact she made on the town.
“Joyce Ship-Freeman was a true champion for our children and the Splash Park,” said Councilman Brescher. “Her passion and commitment to this project were evident to all. It is only fitting that we recognize her contributions by naming the park in her honor.”
The resolution is expected to receive widespread support from the Council and the community. It serves as a testament to Ship-Freeman’s lasting impact on Edison and the importance of recognizing those who work tirelessly to improve the town.
If passed, the Splash Park will officially be renamed the “Councilwoman Joyce Ship-Freeman Splash Park,” ensuring her name and legacy are forever associated with this cherished community space.
