EDISON, NJ – The Edison High School baseball team delivered a dominant 8-0 victory over Somerville yesterday, improving their impressive season record to 15-9. The win marks their final tune-up before Saturday’s highly anticipated Greater Middlesex Conference (GMC) finals, where they will play St.Joe’s at East Brunswick Magnet School at 2:00 p.m.
The star of yesterday’s contest was freshman pitcher Brayden Roma, who pitched a complete game, seven-inning shutout. Roma allowed only one hit throughout the entire game, showcasing poise and control on the mound.
Offensively, the Eagles’ bats stayed hot. Robert Roma continued his strong season, going 2-for-3 with a walk and scoring two runs. Dom Innocenti remained red-hot at the plate, contributing with a 1-for-3 performance that included two runs, two RBIs, and a walk. Brody Ferrer also came up big for Edison, driving in two runs with a 1-for-2 effort.
Saturday’s GMC final marks Edison’s first championship appearance since 2001, a significant occasion for the program. The team will be aiming to break a long drought and win the GMC title for the first time since that same year, recalling a period of remarkable success where they captured eight championships in nine final appearances between 1986 and 2001. Their hard work and dedication this season have brought them to this point. With strong momentum and a star performance from their young pitching ace, the Eagles are poised for a thrilling showdown.
