Edison, NJ – The Edison Family Restaurant, beloved for its homemade soups and warm atmosphere, has closed after 46 years. An eviction notice dated September 3, 2024, with docket number LT-005451-24, now hangs on the empty restaurant’s front door.

The closure marks the end of an era for this local favorite, which had been a cherished gathering place for the community since 1978. The restaurant holds a special place in the hearts of many, its homemade soups evoking feelings of warmth and comfort.

“Due to our ages, we will not be reopening. We will be putting the property for sale. However, I would like to thank all the great people we met over the years for their friendship and patronage,” said Peggy Trstensky, who owned and operated the restaurant, a small family business, for 42 years before selling the business about eight years ago and is now a realtor with Keller Williams Elite. “Unfortunately, the new owner did not love the business the way we did.”

The Edison Family Restaurant was more than just a place to eat; it was a community hub for celebrations, casual meet-ups, and hearty meals. While the reason for the eviction was unpaid rent in the amount of $49,000, the closure highlights the challenges faced by small businesses, even long-standing ones.

The loss of this landmark leaves a void in the community, but the memories made within its walls will endure. The Edison Family Restaurant will be remembered for its warmth, comfort food, and the enduring power of community.
