Edison High School’s Baseball Season Ends in Extra Innings, But Future Shines Bright

Old Bridge, NJ – The Edison High School baseball team’s promising 2025 season came to a heartbreaking end on Tuesday, as they fell 4-3 to Old Bridge in a dramatic eight-inning semi-final battle of the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group 4 Tournament. Despite jumping out to an early lead, the Eagles were ultimately stifled by Old Bridge pitching, concluding their impressive season with a 17-11 record.

Edison started strong, erupting for three runs in the top of the first inning, signaling their intent to secure a spot in the final. However, that would be all the offense they could muster for the remainder of the game. Old Bridge chipped away at the lead, scoring two runs in the fourth and one in the sixth to tie the game. The tension built with each scoreless inning, until Old Bridge ultimately pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the eighth, sending the Knights to the championship game and ending Edison’s tournament run.

Senior Anthony Calantoni, a consistent offensive threat throughout the season, went 1-for-4 with a run scored. Junior Rob Roma also contributed, going 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI, while Ray Tavarez was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

On the mound, Connor Murphy battled through five innings, surrendering three earned runs. Dominic Innocente came on in relief for the final three innings, giving up one earned run, which proved to be the decisive run for Old Bridge.

While the loss is undoubtedly a bitter pill to swallow, particularly given the early lead, the Eagles can hold their heads high after a successful 17-11 season. The team displayed grit and determination throughout the year, navigating a challenging Red Division schedule and showcasing their talent on numerous occasions.

Looking ahead, Edison baseball has reason for optimism. With a core of talented underclassmen who gained valuable experience this season, and the leadership of returning players, the Eagles will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with in the 2026 season. The sting of this semi-final loss will surely fuel their fire as they look to make an even deeper run next year.
