EDISON, NJ – The former councilwoman Joyce Ship Freeman’s long-held dream of a splash park for Edison’s children has finally come to fruition. The new $2.8 million splash park at Lake Papaianni, located near the Municipal Complex off Route 27, officially opened to the public on June 30th.
This unique park, designed in the shape of a light bulb, pays homage to the township’s rich history with a towering 20-foot replica of the Edison light tower as its centerpiece, spraying water on delighted children below. Other features include water-spouting globes and old-fashioned movie cameras, all set upon a rubberized safety surface.
The park is not just for kids. It also features picnic areas, cornhole, shade structures, and restrooms with changing stalls, making it a welcoming space for families to relax and enjoy the summer days.
“This splash park has been a vision of mine for many years, and I’m so happy to see it finally come to life,” said former Councilwoman Joyce Ship-Freeman. “It’s a place where families can come together, cool off, and have fun.”
Open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. through Labor Day, the splash park is free to enter but requires registration for a community pass via www.edisonnj.gov. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Splash park attendants are on site during operating hours to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
While there is no concession stand, visitors are welcome to bring beverages in plastic bottles. Proper swim attire is required, and water shoes are recommended. Infants, toddlers, and children who are not toilet trained must wear swim diapers.
