J.P. Stevens Ends Losing Streak with Thrilling Overtime Win

EDISON, NJ – In a stunning upset that sent shockwaves through the Big Central Conference, the J.P. Stevens Hawks football team snapped their 42-game losing streak with a heart-stopping 22-21 overtime victory against Bound Brook on September 6th.

The Hawks, who entered the game as heavy underdogs, faced an early 14-0 deficit after Bound Brook’s Jeremiah Norwood connected with Lucas Coleman and Moses Williams for touchdowns. However, J.P. Stevens refused to give up. Quadir Johnson ignited the comeback with a 30-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and Marquise Webb’s rushing touchdown in the fourth tied the game at 14-14, forcing overtime.

In the extra period, Bound Brook scored on an 11-yard run, seemingly sealing the win for the Crusaders. But the Hawks had one last answer. Webb’s determined touchdown run set the stage for a dramatic two-point conversion attempt. Johnson’s gutsy run into the end zone sent the J.P. Stevens sideline and fans into a frenzy, marking the end of a five-season losing streak that had become a heavy burden for the program.

This thrilling victory represents a turning point for the Hawks, who have struggled in recent years. The team’s resilience and determination in the face of adversity suggest a brighter future for J.P. Stevens football. The win will undoubtedly boost morale and confidence as they look to build on this success in the remainder of the season.

“I’m just really happy for the kids,” said Head Coach Jason George “The kids work hard, and we haven’t had a lot of positive results around here. So for one to go our way feels good. I’m really happy and proud of these kids in this program who continue to show up every day and work even when the outside world didn’t give them a lot of reason.”
