The Metuchen-Edison Historical Society hosted a successful event today, March 2nd, 2024, at the Cypress Brewing Company in Edison, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Nixon Nitration Works disaster. The event drew a large crowd eager to learn more about this significant moment in local history.

The afternoon program featured informative talks by Metuchen-Edison Historical Society members detailing the history of the Nixon Nitration Works and the tragic events of 1924. A poignant moment came with the reading of the names of those who lost their lives in the explosion, a somber reminder of the human cost of the disaster.

Cypress Brewing Company played a key role in the event’s success. The venue provided a welcoming atmosphere for attendees, and the specially-brewed “1924 Faithful Service Medal Brew” proved popular with those of age. Metuchen-Edison Historical Society members received a commemorative can of the brew, adding a unique touch to the event.

Overall, the Nixon Nitration Works Centennial Commemoration was a resounding success. The Metuchen-Edison Historical Society is to be commended for their efforts to educate the community about this important part of local history. The event served not only as a historical remembrance but also as a way to honor the memory of those affected by the disaster.
