EDISON, NJ – June 29, 2025 – In a significant turn in Edison’s upcoming mayoral election, Republican candidate Gloria Dittman has announced her withdrawal from the race and her subsequent endorsement of independent candidate David Tingle and the PEOPLE’S CHOICE 2025 ticket.
Dittman, a long time District 33 committeewoman outlined her decision in a letter dated June 26, stating that her withdrawal was “not a decision I came to lightly” and was the result of “considerable reflection on the current political landscape and what is best for the future of our township.”
Her letter emphasized a primary motivation for running rooted in “a deep commitment to the residents Edison and a desire to see our town thrive under responsible and ethical leadership.” After careful consideration, Dittman concluded that the most effective path forward for Edison residents is to unite behind a “single, strong alternative to the current administration.”
The pivotal announcement in her letter was the endorsement of David Tingle. Dittman stated, “I am announcing my endorsement of David Tingle and the PEOPLE’S CHOICE 2025 ticket. I believe that David and his team offer the best opportunity to bring real leadership, accountability, transparency and integrity back to Edison.” She expressed confidence in Tingle’s vision and ability to “serve our community with distinction.”

“We’re incredibly honored and energized by Gloria Dittman’s endorsement,” David Tingle stated. “Her decision has immediately transformed this race, making it not just extremely competitive, but very winnable here in Edison. This is a clear sign that a powerful coalition is rapidly coming together, showing the undeniable demand for real change that our community is ready to embrace.”
“Gloria Dittman’s endorsement of Dave Tingle is another clear demonstration of her insightful leadership and unwavering commitment to Edison residents,” stated Republican Chairwoman Sylvia Engel. “This decision firmly unites the Republican Party behind a singular vision for positive change in our town. Dave Tingle brings the integrity and foresight essential for effective leadership, and our full support is with him. We applaud Gloria for this crucial and bold step towards a better future for Edison.”
Further shaping the landscape of the upcoming elections, Dittman also announced her plan to join the PEOPLE’S CHOICE 2025 ticket, intending to run as a council candidate. She expressed her commitment to lending her “support and expertise to their efforts,” viewing this unified front as an excellent opportunity “to fill a council seat with candidate committed to Republican values within a broader coalition focused on positive change for Edison.”
With the field now reduced to Democratic incumbent Sam Joshi and independent David Tingle, who has secured Republican support, the dynamics of the Edison mayoral and council races have shifted dramatically. This two-person contest is expected to be intensely competitive, potentially consolidating opposition and offering a new narrative to voters.
Mayor Joshi and Chief of Staff Bob Diehl did not respond to request for comment.
