St. Thomas Aquinas Names Jonathan Germano New Head Football Coach

St. Thomas Aquinas High School has announced the hiring of Jonathan Germano as its new head football coach. Germano, a former quarterback and assistant coach at Bergen Catholic, takes the helm after the school dismissed Tarig Holman following three successful seasons.

“In the spirit of our goal to provide continuous growth and excellence across every aspect of our school community, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Coach Germano,” said Kevin Sacco, St. Thomas Aquinas president, in a press release. “He will inspire our players to give their all and infuse our football program with the core Catholic values and beliefs that shape our Catholic Identity.”

Germano brings a wealth of experience to the Trojans. As a player, he quarterbacked Bergen Catholic, a perennial powerhouse in New Jersey high school football, earning the prestigious Gatorade Player of the Year award in 2012. He also served as the team’s quarterback and passing game coordinator.

His appointment follows the dismissal of Tarig Holman on January 10th. Holman, who also serves as the President of the New Jersey Football Coaches Association, led the Trojans to a 27-6 record over the past three seasons, with the team achieving state rankings in the last two years. Holman stated that the reason given for his dismissal was a disagreement over team culture.

Germano’s coaching background includes stints at Syracuse and Nebraska, providing him with experience at the collegiate level. The press release emphasized Germano’s commitment to the school’s values, noting that he “is meeting with football players to outline his vision for the team. He will also meet with parents to discuss his plans.”

“We know Coach Germano will not only develop a winning program but will inspire our players to reach their greatest personal potential,” Sacco said. “At the foundation of this program will be the bedrock of our Catholic faith.” The school community looks forward to Germano’s leadership and the future of the St. Thomas Aquinas football program.
