Most Recent New Jersey State Police Crime Data Shows Burglaries Are Up 52.72% And 70.52% In Total
Fueled by a 52.72% surge in burglaries and a 70.52% in total crime according to New Jersey State Police data, Edison police have arrested two Essex County men, Yasir Twitty, 20, of Newark, and Tyshir Stewart, 22, of East Orange, in connection with a string of residential burglaries. The arrests followed an extensive investigation by the department’s burglary unit, with assistance from other agencies.
Yasir Twitty, 20, of Newark, was the first to be apprehended. His arrest occurred on March 1st by Berkeley Heights police, who discovered an active Edison warrant during an unrelated investigation. Twitty had been identified as a suspect in several home burglaries that occurred in Edison during overnight and early morning hours in December 2024 and January 2025.
Following closely, Tyshir Stewart, 22, of East Orange, was arrested on March 6th. The Edison Police Department’s Burglary Unit, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service, took Stewart into custody. He, too, is believed to be connected to the series of burglaries that have troubled Edison residents.
