Edison, NJ – June 10, 2025 – Preliminary results from Edison’s municipal elections are beginning to trickle in, with vote-by-mail and early voting totals establishing clear frontrunners in both the Council and Mayor’s races. While these initial figures are often indicative of the final outcome, it’s important to note that 0 out of 78 districts have reported as of yet, meaning that the full picture of Election Day turnout is still pending.
In the hotly contested Democratic Mayoral primary, Samip Joshi has established a commanding lead with 67.69% of the vote and 4,808 votes. His closest competitor, Lav Patel, trails with 18.19% (1,292 votes), followed by Richard Brescher at 13.97% (992 votes). A small number of write-in votes account for 0.15% (11 votes). The total votes counted so far in the Democratic Mayoral race stand at 7,103.
On the Republican side, Gloria Dittman ran unopposed for Mayor, securing an overwhelming 93.22% of the vote with 811 votes. Write-in candidates received 6.78% (59 votes), bringing the Republican Mayoral total to 870 votes.
The Democratic Council race, which will see three winners, in a hotly contested race. Biral Patel is at the top with 21.58% (4,029 votes), closely followed by Robert J. Kentos with 21.44% (4,004 votes), and Kelli Dima with 21.15% (3,949 votes). Trailing them are Yingnan ‘Ingrid’ Chen and Jayesh Mehta, both with 10.08% of the vote (1,883 and 1,882 votes respectively). Anthony DeAmorin has 8.79% (1,642 votes), and Joyce Ship-Freeman has 6.73% (1,257 votes).
In an uncontested Republican primary for three Township Council seats, Russell J. Azzarello leads with 36.01% of the vote, totaling 821 votes. He is followed by Kantik Nath with 31.18% (711 votes) and Samiksha Sharmas with 30.35% (692 votes). Write-in candidates garnered 2.46% of the vote (56 votes).
As the evening progresses and more districts report, these numbers will be updated. However, the current vote-by-mail and early voting totals provide a strong indication of the preferences of Edison’s electorate.
