Edison Board of Education has officially honored the legacy of Andrew S. DeNicola, a transformative figure in music education, by renaming the John P. Stevens High School auditorium the “Andrew S. DeNicola Performing Arts Auditorium.” The resolution passed at the February 25th 2025 meeting, celebrates DeNicola’s extraordinary career and his profound impact on generations of students.

DeNicola’s tenure as Director of Bands at John P. Stevens High School spanned over five decades, during which he achieved national recognition for his dedication and excellence. His leadership went beyond simply teaching music; he instilled a deep love for the arts and fostered a culture of commitment and achievement.

The resolution passed by the Board of Education highlighted DeNicolaโ€™s numerous accomplishments, including his status as a finalist for the prestigious Grammy Music Education Award and his induction into the esteemed American Bandmasters Association. These accolades underscore his significant contributions to the field of music education.

Beyond his professional achievements, DeNicola was remembered for his vibrant personality, marked by humor and unwavering passion. He cultivated a thriving performing arts culture at John P. Stevens, elevating the school’s reputation regionally and nationally. His influence extended far beyond the band room, leaving an indelible mark on the entire school community.

“Andrew S. DeNicola’s impact on John P. Stevens High School and the Edison community is immeasurable,” stated the Board of Education in their resolution. “His dedication to the arts and his commitment to excellence have inspired countless students and enriched the lives of all who knew him.”

The renaming of the auditorium serves as a permanent tribute to DeNicola’s lifelong dedication to the arts and his exceptional service to the students of the Edison Township Public School District. A copy of the resolution will be presented to his family, commemorating his remarkable contributions.

    The newly named Andrew S.
