Metuchen, NJ – The Metuchen-Edison Historical Society marked the end of its 50th anniversary year with a gala celebration held at the Old Franklin School House in Metuchen. The event was attended by 70 members and featured a look back at a year filled with commemorative events and a glimpse into the future of the organization.
President Robert Kentos addressed the attendees, highlighting the society’s achievements throughout its golden anniversary year and outlining plans for future fundraising initiatives. The event was attended by 70 members and the society’s board members including, Dan Granato (Vice President), Steve Reuter (Treasurer), Debbie Finley (Recording Secretary), Tyreen Reuter (Nannygoats Editor), Walter Stochel (Corresponding Secretary), Byron Sondergard (Archives Chair), Russ Gehrum (Director), and Lauren Mastbaum (Director).
Nannygoats Editor Tyreen Reuter paid tribute to cherished members who passed away this year and presented two awards. Charlie Leckenby was honored posthumously for his work with the Metuchen Colonial Cemetery, with his wife accepting the award on his behalf. Nancy Zerbe and Pete Materna received the Historic Preservation Award for their outstanding restoration of 443 Middlesex Avenue
The Metuchen-Edison Historical Society, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is dedicated to fostering an appreciation for the rich history of the Metuchen and Edison areas. Through preservation efforts, research, and educational programs, the society strives to connect the community with its past.
