Piscataway, NJ – Middlesex County invites the community to an inspiring afternoon celebrating local sports heroes at the “Hey Special Olympians!” speaker event on Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 1 PM to 3 PM, at the Cornelius Low House Museum. This free event will feature two remarkable Middlesex County Special Olympics gold medalists: bowler Justin Malfitano of East Brunswick and sprinter Russell Collins of Middlesex Borough.

Attendees will have the unique opportunity to hear firsthand accounts of these athletes’ incredible journeys and experiences competing in the Special Olympics. The discussion will be moderated by Mark Oldland, a former Special Olympics Coach, who will guide a Q&A session with Malfitano and Collins. They will delve into their paths as athletes and share the triumphs and challenges they’ve faced in their respective sport

Presented by the Arts Institute of Middlesex County and the Division of History and Historic Preservation at the Cornelius Low House, this event offers a compelling look at the personal stories behind Middlesex County’s rich sports history.

This special program also serves as a complement to the Hometown Pride exhibition currently on display at the Cornelius Low House Museum. The exhibition showcases nearly a century of Middlesex County’s athletic achievements through a fascinating collection of memorabilia from local high schools, Middlesex College, and Rutgers University. The “Hometown Pride” exhibition is open now and runs through December 31, 2025.

Don’t miss this chance to be inspired by the dedication and spirit of these extraordinary athletes. The event is free and open to the media and the public.
