Edison Approves $8.85 Million For Water Meters

EDISON, NJ – The Edison Township Council has taken steps to improve water infrastructure with the approval of an $8.85 million bond ordinance. The funds will support a comprehensive project to replace aging water meters and implement an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) network in the areas served by the Edison Water Utility.

The project will replace 12,130 existing water meters in both residential and commercial properties in South Edison. The installation of an AMI system will modernize the utility’s operations, enhancing its capabilities in areas like meter readings, leak detection, and streamlined billing processes.

The modernized water meter system promises several benefits for residents and businesses. The AMI network is expected to:

Improve billing accuracy: Eliminating the need for manual readings, reducing the likelihood of errors.

Empower customers: Enable near real-time tracking of water usage for more informed water management.

Enhance leak detection: Proactively identify potential leaks, supporting water conservation efforts.

    Service Area

It is important to note that the Edison Water Utility specifically serves South Edison. Other areas are serviced by Middlesex Water Company or New Jersey American Water. Residents can consult a water utility map to confirm which utility services their property.

The implementation of new water meters and the advanced metering infrastructure system demonstrates a commitment to improving water services in South Edison. Residents can expect more accurate billing, greater insight into their water consumption, and a more efficient water utility.
