Edison, NJ – The Middlesex County Deputy Clerk Deborah Braga conducted a crucial ballot draw on Monday at 9:00 AM, determining the order of candidates for the upcoming mayoral and council elections in Edison. The draw, a procedural but significant step that was delayed over frivolous litigition has set the stage for what promises to be a highly competitive race.

For the highly anticipated mayoral election, the ballot positions were drawn as follows:

    • Position 1: Lav Patel
    • Position 2: Rich Brescher
    • Position 3: Sam Joshi

The order in which candidates appear on the ballot can sometimes influence voter behavior, with some studies suggesting a slight advantage for those listed higher. However, the impact is often minimal compared to factors like candidate recognition and campaign strategies.

The Edison Township Council race also saw its ballot positions determined, with the following results:

    • Council Position 1:
      • Kelli Dima
      • Biral Patel
      • Robert Kentos
    • Council Position 2:
      • Yingnan Chen
      • Jayesh Mehta
      • Anthony DeAmorin
    • Council Position 3:
      • Joyce Ship Freeman.

The council race, featuring multiple candidates vying for limited seats, is expected to be particularly contentious. The draw has now solidified the visual layout of the ballot, allowing campaigns to finalize their strategies and messaging.

The ballot draw is a standard procedure in elections, ensuring fairness and transparency by randomly assigning positions. It is a moment of anticipation for candidates and their supporters, as it marks a key milestone in the electoral process.

With the ballot positions now set, the campaigns are expected to intensify their efforts, engaging with voters through various channels, including door-to-door canvassing, social media, and public appearances. The residents of Edison will now have the opportunity to weigh their choices and decide who will lead their municipality in the coming term.
