Edison Library Turns a New Page with Modern Logo for National Library Week, Highlighting National Librarian Day

EDISON, NJ – The Edison Public Library is embracing the future with the unveiling of a brand-new logo, perfectly timed with the recent National Library Week (April 6-April 12). This fresh visual identity marks a significant step in the library’s ongoing evolution to meet the dynamic needs of the Edison community, culminating in the upcoming National Librarian Day on April 16.

“Libraries have changed dramatically over the past several decades, and we have updated our logo to reflect the ever-changing needs of the community,” announced Library Director Allan M. Kleiman. “Our new logo represents a new chapter in our commitment to grow, expand, and adapt, a commitment that is brought to life every day by our dedicated librarians.”

The contemporary design, conceived by Myth with valuable input from library employees, stakeholders, and patrons, is both symbolic and abstract. Cleverly incorporated within the design are crossing bars, a subtle yet meaningful nod to the “spark” of innovation synonymous with Thomas Edison, the town’s namesake. These bars also represent the library’s three branches and the vital Bookmobile service. A stylized book is also subtly integrated, a timeless symbol of the library’s core function, expertly navigated and curated by librarians.

Adding a unique and forward-thinking element, the new logo is designed to be recognizable on its own while also possessing the exciting capability to be altered in imaginative and fantastical ways through the use of AI tools. This adaptability underscores the library’s commitment to embracing technological advancements, a landscape that librarians are increasingly skilled in navigating to better serve patrons.

Moving away from previous logos that featured the township seal and, more recently, a lightbulb, Director Kleiman explained that the goal was to establish a distinct identity specifically for the Edison Public Library, emphasizing its boundless potential, a potential unlocked and facilitated by the expertise of its librarians.

“Much like the library and its ongoing commitment to meet the ever-changing times and needs of the community, the logo is highly adaptable, ever-evolving, and not static,” Kleiman stated. “With this new logo, we can reimagine the role of the Edison Public Library, a role expertly guided by our professional librarians.”

The unveiling of the new logo is just one part of the exciting developments at the Edison Public Library. The second phase of renovations at the Main Library is anticipated to be completed this summer, and construction at the North Edison Branch is poised to commence. These improvements will create even better spaces for librarians to connect with and assist the community.

Furthermore, plans are underway to update the Bookmobile, ensuring its continued service to the community, bringing resources and the expertise of librarians directly to neighborhoods. In a proactive effort to best serve its patrons, the library is also hosting a series of Community Conversations to gather input on how to enhance services and redesign library spaces, initiatives spearheaded and supported by the library’s professional staff. The next Community Conversation is scheduled for Wednesday, April 30 at the Clara Barton Branch.

“We are looking to be more community minded and meet the changing needs of Edison,” Kleiman emphasized. “Our goal is to make the Edison Public Library a go-to destination, a place where the knowledge and guidance of our librarians are central to the experience.”

About National Library Week and National Librarian Day

National Library Week, sponsored by the American Library Association, is an annual celebration that highlights the invaluable role libraries play in transforming lives and strengthening communities. The 2025 National Library Week, held from April 6 to April 12, centered around the theme “Drawn to the Library.” The week also recognized important figures in the library world, including School Librarian Day on April 4, National Library Day on April 6, and National Library Worker’s Day on April 8. The celebration culminates on April 16 with National Librarian Day, a dedicated occasion to acknowledge the expertise, dedication, and vital contributions of librarians in guiding communities, fostering literacy, and providing access to information. The Edison Public Library’s new logo and ongoing initiatives underscore its dedication to embodying the spirit of National Library Week and recognizing the crucial role its librarians play in serving the Edison community.
