Edison, NJ – In a move that highlights his commitment to addressing the pressing issues facing New Jersey residents, Jersey City Mayor and gubernatorial candidate Steve Fulop, a 1995 graduate of JP Stevens High School in Edison, will join South Orange Mayor and Lieutenant Governor candidate Sheena Collum to announce a comprehensive affordability plan for New Jersey. The announcement is scheduled for Monday, April 14th at 11:00 AM at 5 Devon Road, Edison, NJ 08820 and is open to the public.

Fulop, who has deep roots in the Edison community having graduated from JP Stevens, is set to unveil his comprehensive “Affordability in New Jersey” white paper. This plan outlines targeted reforms aimed at alleviating the financial burdens faced by working families, seniors, and young people across the state. Key components of the plan include:

    • Reducing property taxes: A significant concern for many New Jersey residents, Fulop’s plan aims to tackle this issue head-on.
    • Consolidating government services: Streamlining government operations to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
    • Modernizing municipal finance laws: Updating outdated financial regulations to better serve the needs of communities.
    • Reshaping the controversial “Stay NJ” program: Prioritizing middle- and low-income residents in the distribution of benefits.

Fulop’s decision to announce his plan in Edison, his hometown, demonstrates his connection to the community and his understanding of the challenges faced by its residents. As a JP Stevens alumnus, he brings a unique perspective to the gubernatorial race, shaped by his experiences growing up in the area.

This affordability plan is expected to be a cornerstone of Fulop’s campaign, showing his commitment to making New Jersey a more affordable place to live for all its residents. The announcement will be closely watched by political observers and residents alike, as they seek solutions to the state’s pressing economic challenges.

    About Steve Fulop:

Steve Fulop is the current Mayor of Jersey City, New Jersey’s second-largest city. He has served in this position since 2013, overseeing significant economic growth and development in the city. Prior to his political career, Fulop served in the United States Marine Corps and worked in the financial sector. He is a 1995 graduate of JP Stevens High School in Edison and holds degrees from Binghamton University and Columbia University.

    About Sheena Collum:

Sheena Collum is the current Mayor of South Orange, New Jersey. She has served in this position since 2015 and is known for her willingness to take on the political establishment. She is a staunch advocate for shared government services and smart development built around public transportation. Collum is also a faculty member at Seton Hall University.

This announcement marks a significant moment in the gubernatorial race and emphasizes the importance of affordability as a key issue for New Jersey voters. Fulop’s connection to Edison and his focus on addressing the needs of working families, seniors, and young people are likely to resonate with many voters across the state.
