Milltown, NJ – Leurys Estrella know to his clients as Lstar, is a native of Santiago in the Dominican Republic and current owner of Kingsman Grooming and Shave Parlor in Milltown. He is once again embarking on a heartfelt mission to support young athletes in his home country. For the fourth consecutive year, Estrella is organizing a baseball equipment donation drive that will benefit children training at the Moya Baseball Academy in Santiago.
The Moya Baseball Academy holds a special significance for Estrella, as it was the very same field where he honed his own baseball skills until the age of 15. Now, his three boys have the privilege of training at the academy, under the guidance of his childhood friend, Edwin Moya, who runs the program.
“The kids in the Dominican just don’t have the resources that some of us here have, and they are so very appreciative of any equipment we donate,” he shared, highlighting the motivation behind his annual donation drive.
What started as a small gesture four years ago, with his friends and a few clients donating their old equipment, has grown into a yearly tradition. Edwin Moya, a lifelong friend of Estrella’s expressed his gratitude, saying, “The equipment he has brought the past couple of years has given kids an opportunity to enjoy the game that might not be there for some of them. It’s so greatly appreciated.”
Estrella’s dedication to giving back to his community and providing opportunities for young athletes is a testament to his character and passion for the sport and community. His annual equipment donation drive is not only helping to equip aspiring baseball players in the Dominican Republic but also fostering a love for the game and a sense of hope for a brighter future.
Estrella is collecting new and gently used baseball equipment, including gloves, bats, balls, cleats, and uniforms. Donations can be dropped off at Kingsman Grooming and Shave Parlor in Milltown.
“We’re hoping to collect as much equipment as possible to help these kids have a chance to play the game they love,” said Estrella. “Every little bit helps.” The equipment drive will run through August 12th, and he plans to personally deliver the donations to the Moya Baseball Academy during his upcoming trip to Santiago.
