Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, the first woman to hold this position, has been awarded Middlesex College’s highest honor, the 2024 Paige D. L’Hommedieu Award, for her exceptional community leadership.

Ciccone’s extensive legal career has been devoted to serving Middlesex County. Starting as an assistant prosecutor, she tackled various roles, including leading the Juvenile Division and overseeing the Hate Crimes Task Force. Her commitment to justice led her to become a Superior Court Judge. Later becoming the first woman appointed as Assignment Judge for Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Counties.

Middlesex College President Mark McCormick lauded Prosecutor Yoland Ciccone’s dedication, emphasizing her focus on public safety and community service.

During her time as Prosecutor, Ciccone oversaw the prosecution of Mayor Sam Joshi’s uncle Rajendra Joshi for stealing signs during the 2021 Edison mayoral campaign. She was also asked by Mayor Tom Lankey in March of 2021 to investigate the racist flier incident. “To date, no one has been charged for this horrific hate crime” stated Mayor Lankey in 2021. Ciccone is also overseeing the investigation of Sexual Assault allegations against Mayor Sam Joshi filed on 7/25/22.

She has launched impactful initiatives, including Blue Cares, an addiction support hotline, and Safe Place, offering safe havens for victims of bias crimes. She also spearheaded programs to improve emergency response. Such as ARRIVE, pairing law enforcement with mental health professionals for related 911 calls.

Ciccone’s commitment extends to the well-being of young people, actively participating in forums addressing student mental health and school safety.

Praful Raja, chair of the Middlesex College Board of Trustees, praised Ciccone’s efforts in building strong community connections. He highlighted their lasting positive impact on the safety and quality of life for all residents.

This award recognizes Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone’s pioneering spirit, unwavering dedication to public service, and profound contributions to Middlesex County.
