EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – Middlesex County has taken a significant leap forward in its vision to provide residents with a premier golf destination, officially opening the newly renovated West Course at Tamarack Golf Course on Thursday, June 12, 2025. This much-anticipated completion, a collaborative effort between Middlesex County and Indigo Sports, a Troon Company, promises a world-class golf experience for players of all levels.
The comprehensive renovation of the West Course brings a host of upgrades designed to enhance playability and enjoyment. Golfers will now discover brand new fairways, significantly improved drainage, new tee boxes, and cutting-edge USGA spec greens featuring 100% bent grass putting surfaces. The course also boasts new bunkers equipped with the most up-to-date liners and sand, along with new golf carts and cart paths, complete with added curbs near tee boxes and greens for a smoother experience.
Both the East and West Courses at Tamarack were strategically designed by renowned golf course architect Mark Mungeam, ASGCA, with an emphasis on maximum playability. Mungeam’s design ensures that golfers of all calibers can enjoy the courses and discover something new with every round.
“With all the upgrades to Tamarack Golf Course over the past few years, our vision to make it a premier golf destination in this region will become a reality,” stated Middlesex County Commissioner Director Ronald G. Rios. He emphasized the broader community benefits, noting, “By investing in the quality of life of our residents, our entire community benefits, not only from an exciting recreational activity, but we’re also attracting new visitors and revenue to the County.”
Middlesex County Commissioner Charles E. Tomaro, Chair of the Infrastructure Committee, highlighted the importance of outdoor recreation. “Getting outdoors and enjoying our vast green spaces is the key to a happy and healthy life,” Tomaro said. “Tamarack Golf Course was created with the residents in mind; it offers exceptional golf experiences at accessible rates, providing real value by simply living here. Whether you’re new to golf or a seasoned pro, Tamarack’s newly upgraded courses will keep you engaged and coming back for more!”
Jeff Bebbino, Regional Director of Operations for Troon, expressed his enthusiasm for the transformation. “The transformation of Tamarack Golf Course over the past few years is nothing short of amazing,” Bebbino commented. “Coupled with our top-notch customer service, the newly renovated West Course will bring more attention and new players from all over this region to come visit and play on our upgraded courses. The entire team at Troon is excited and proud to be part of this growth.”
Golf Design Consultant Mark Mungeam himself shared his excitement about the completed work. “I am very excited about the upgrades made to Tamarack West. The renovated course will be fun for all golfers, with enough strategic options and challenges to captivate the best players and beginners,” Mungeam explained. He noted the versatility of the course, stating, “Tee expansions allow the course to be played at any length from 4,900 to 7,000 yards. Though the corridors are the same as the original course, each hole has been completely rebuilt, and the nines have been reversed. The gently rolling land through woods and streams provides a delightful setting. I firmly believe that Middlesex County residents will enjoy and embrace the ‘New’ West Course.”
Funded through the Middlesex County Open Space Trust Fund, Tamarack Golf Course is set for further enhancements in the future, with current plans including upgrades to the façade and signs to improve exterior aesthetics.
