MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ – With a firm commitment to supporting its older population, Middlesex County is actively promoting the Stay NJ property tax relief program, a vital new state initiative offering significant financial assistance to eligible senior homeowners. To ensure widespread awareness, the County has launched a robust public information campaign, highlighting the program’s key benefits and eligibility requirements. A dedicated webpage has been created here to provide easy access to crucial information and helpful tools. This proactive approach reflects the County’s ongoing dedication to easing the property tax burden for seniors and fostering their well-being, enabling them to remain in their New Jersey homes.
The Stay NJ program provides a substantial 50% reimbursement on property taxes, up to an annual maximum of $13,000. For the current 2024 tax year, the reimbursement is capped at $6,500. This valuable relief is available to homeowners aged 65 and older who meet specific income and residency criteria. Eligible residents are strongly encouraged to apply before the deadline of October 31, 2025, with payments anticipated to begin in early 2026. Simplifying the process for applicants, a single application can now be used to claim benefits for Stay NJ, ANCHOR, and the Senior Freeze programs.
Middlesex County Commissioner Director Ronald G. Rios stressed the program’s importance for the county’s senior population. “The Stay NJ program offers crucial financial relief to our senior homeowners, allowing them to maintain their cherished homes and deep community ties within Middlesex County,” he stated. “Recognizing the increasing financial pressures faced by many older residents, we strongly encourage all eligible individuals to seize this opportunity for greater financial stability.”
To streamline the application process, the Office of the County Clerk, in collaboration with the Office of Information Technology, offers two practical web-based tools accessible at Middlesex County Tax Relief Program. These resources allow residents to easily find essential property details, including their block and lot numbers, required for the application.
The Middlesex County Office of Aging & Disabled Services is actively conducting county-wide outreach to inform older residents about this vital program and provide application support. As a designated AARP Age-Friendly Community, Middlesex County is dedicated to keeping older adults engaged and supported through various services and programs offered by the Office of Aging & Disabled Services. These include meal services, health and fitness events, fraud prevention and elder abuse conferences, and an annual art contest and show.
