    Step Back in Time at Middlesex County’s 2025 Annual Union Muster

    PISCATAWAY, NJ – History will come alive later this week as Middlesex County hosts its annual Union Muster at the East Jersey Old Town Village on Saturday, April 26, and Sunday, April 27. From 10 am to 4 pm each day, the public is invited to immerse themselves in the sights and sounds of the Civil War era at this premier living history site. Admission to this engaging event is free for all.

    Presented by the Middlesex County Division of History and Historic Preservation in collaboration with the Arts Institute of Middlesex County, the Union Muster serves as a tribute to the 80,000 brave New Jersey soldiers who served during the Civil War. This family-friendly weekend promises a wide array of activities designed to educate and entertain visitors of all ages.

    Attendees can look forward to captivating live historical reenactments featuring Union soldiers and civilians, providing a firsthand glimpse into life during this pivotal period in American history. The thunderous roar of musket and artillery demonstrations will further transport visitors back in time. Adding to the atmosphere will be the enchanting melodies of 19th centurymusic and perfomances.

    For younger visitors, the event will offer engaging children’s crafts and activitis, providing hands-on learning experiences. When hunger strikes, attendees can enjoy a variety of offerings from local food trucks and gourmet fare available on site.

    While exploring the rich history at East Jersey Old Town Village, visitors are also encouraged to visit the nearby Cornelius Low House Museum to experience the Hometown Pride Exhibition. This fascinating exhibition celebrates nearly a century of Middlesex County sports history, showcasing memorabilia from local high schools, Middlesex College, and Rutgers University.

    To ensure easy access between both historic sites, the County’s RIDE shuttle service will provide free, accessible, on demand tranportation throughout the event weekend.

    Don’t miss this opportunity to delve into the past and honor the legacy of New Jersey’s Civil War heroes. The 2025 Annual Union Muster promises to be an enriching and memorable experience for the entire family.
