Edison, NJ – A water break has occurred at the intersection of Route 27 and Alice Avenue, causing significant flooding and traffic disruptions. The incident, which took around 4:00pm, has left businesses and residents in the area without water service.
The break, located near the Bell Drugs store, has sent a torrent of water gushing onto the roadway, making driving conditions hazardous. Police have closed off the affected section of Route 27 and are diverting traffic to alternate routes.
Crews from the local water utility are currently on site assessing the damage and working to isolate the leak. Water service has been temporarily shut off to the surrounding area while repairs are underway. However, there is currently no estimate on when service will be restored.
The cause of the break is still unknown. Aging infrastructure and recent temperature fluctuations are possible contributing factors.
Residents and businesses in the affected area are advised to conserve water and boil any water used for consumption until further notice. Updates on the situation will be provided as they become available.
