The Edison Fire Department is mourning the loss of retired Fire Captain Tony Colletto, Sr., who passed away peacefully at his home on October 3, 2024, at the age of 87. Captain Colletto dedicated his life to serving his community, both as a firefighter and a veteran.

Born and raised in Edison, Captain Colletto was a true local. He graduated from New Brunswick High School in 1956 and served his country in the US Army from 1960-1962, including a tour of duty in South Korea. He was awarded the Good Conduct and Marksman Medals for his service.

In 1965, Captain Colletto joined the Edison Fire Department as a Firefighter 1st Grade. His passion for the job was evident throughout his career. He was known for his dedication, often visiting firehouses while traveling and constantly monitoring fire calls even in his retirement. His commitment to the department and the safety of Edison residents was unwavering.

“Tony was more than just a firefighter; he was the embodiment of what it means to serve,” said Fire Chief Andy Toth. “His dedication to the department, the community and his country was an inspiration to us all. He will be deeply missed.”

Beyond his professional life, Captain Tony Colletto was a beloved member of the community. He was a lifelong resident of Edison, a testament to his deep roots and love for his hometown. The Edison Fire Department extends its deepest condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.

Services for Captain Colletto will be held as follows:

    • Visitation: Tuesday, October 8, 2024, from 6 PM to 8 PM at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave (Rt 27), Metuchen.
    • Funeral Service: Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 12 noon at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home.
    • Interment: 1:45 PM at Van Liew Cemetery, 585 Georges Road, North Brunswick.
