Councilman Ajay Patil Enters 2025 Mayor’s Race

Edison Councilman Ajay Patil has announced his plan to run for Mayor in the June 2025 Democratic primary to address critical issues facing the township, focusing on financial stability, transparent governance, enhanced public safety, and dedicated services for seniors and veterans.

Patil’s campaign for Edison Township Mayor prioritizes the needs of the community. He aims to bring fiscal responsibility to the township by optimizing spending, seeking new revenue streams, and ensuring long-term financial stability. Patil champions honest and transparent governance, making township operations accessible to the public and encouraging community participation in decision-making.

Enhancing public safety is another key focus, with plans for increased police visibility, community policing, and addressing traffic concerns, all while protecting residents’ constitutional rights. Finally, Patil is dedicated to providing expanded services for veterans and seniors, including improved access to healthcare, transportation, and social programs.

“I’m proud to serve alongside Councilman Patil, a candidate who shares my commitment to fiscal responsibility, transparent governance, public safety, and supporting our veterans and seniors” said Councilman Rich Brescher who has also announced he is running for Mayor. “We are in complete agreement on the issues facing Edison, and the need to replace Mayor Joshi and the current administration.”

Patil’s vision for Edison is one of a thriving, fiscally responsible, and inclusive community where residents feel safe and heard. His focus on transparency, accountability, and community engagement sets the stage for a more responsive and efficient local government.

Councilman Patil’s announcement follows weeks of intense scrutiny surrounding Mayor Joshi’s conduct. Joshi has faced mounting pressure due to sexual assault allegations, which he has consistently refused to address. Meanwhile, the victim bravely shared her experience in a detailed interview, further intensifying the calls for accountability.

Adding to the controversy, Joshi and Council President Nish Patel reversed their stance on the widely condemned “Flag Ban” ordinance, with the council scheduled to officially repeal it on January 8th. This backtracking came after nationwide criticism ignited a firestorm of controversy, drawing sharp criticism from both residents and observers across the nation.

Despite these developments, questions linger about Joshi’s financial dealings, specifically regarding the alleged misappropriation of funds during a trip to Chicago with four police officers. While Joshi has reimbursed the township $20,000 from his campaign account, concerns remain about the nature of the trip and the initial use of public funds.

Mayor Joshi has also failed to file his required quarterly financial disclosure forms since the second quarter of 2023 as required by the New Jersey Law Enforcement Election Commission further raising questions about his character and integrity. Only 15% of Joshi’s reported contributions have come from Edison residents. This complex web of allegations and controversies has cast a shadow over Joshi’s leadership, leaving residents demanding transparency and accountability.

Mayor Sam Joshi and his Chief of Staff Bob Diehl did not respond to request for comment.
